So you are inspired by the TV dancing reality shows Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance and is seeking information about how to learn ballroom dancing.

Ballroom dancing is very popular all over the world because it appeals to people of various ages and is a fantastic form of exercise keeping you fit, healthy and in great shape. On the social aspect, you can spend quality time with like minded people who are ballroom dancing fans just like you are.

Ballroom dancing is a very wide terminology and is used to refer to the many styles of dancing with a partner on the dance floor. Some of the more common ballroom dance styles are the Waltz, Salsa, Tango, Foxtrot, Lindy Hop, The Jive, Cha Cha and Rhumba amongst many others.

Many forms of this dance originated from different cultures and nationalities. As such, if you decide to take up dance lessons, then you should choose between programs that offer the basics or programs which are based on the customs and styles of different cultures. For this, you can do your research on the internet and to read and watch the different dance forms before choosing one of your choice.

Ballroom dancing lessons are typically taught in group classes or in private lessons and thus it is important to decide which format you prefer before you start approaching dance lesson studios. If you are interested in the dances to learn the basic techniques and also as a social activity such as making new friends, then group lessons could be what you are looking for.

However, dance classes lessons will not be as intensive and as elborate as private lessons. This is because private lessons offer you the opportunities to hone and perfect the various dance techniques and to work on specific styles and aspect of the moves of the various dance forms. Private lessons are also excellent for dancers who want to choreograph a dance style for performances at some social functions such as weddings and parties or even to join contests.

If you intend to take up lessons, then you should visit several studios to watch how lessons are being conducted instead of enrolling in one immediately. This is because you need to find out if you are comfortable in the dance studio, if the instructors are credible, which dance style the the classes are focusing on and other matters that you should know that is particular to you.

If you find that dancing classes or private lessons are out of your budget or the location of the classes are inconvenient or you can t commit to fixed schedules for your lessons, then the alternative is to look for dancing lessons in the form of DVDs or multi media instructions. There are now many great dancing coaches offering dance instructions in the form of DVDs or online coaching.

That being the case, you can find pre recorded lessons or online lessons from well respected credible international coaches at the price of several DVDs and can learn ballroom dancing from the comfort of your home together with your favorite dance partner. So, do you think you can dance with the stars?
