When it comes to binding, which method do you prefer? There are so many great methods, it can be difficult to choose just one, which is why the series of Akiles DuoMac binding machines stand out. These devices offer you two binding methods in just about any combination you can imagine: wire/comb, coil/comb, and so on. The C51 can work with both plastic combs and color coils. Here s a look at the strengths and weaknesses of this binding device. Check them out.

Strengths:

* As mentioned above, this device can handle both plastic combs and color coils so you ll have two great ways of finishing your documents.

* The C51 can punch a maximum of 20 sheets of paper at once. This is assuming the paper is 20 lb. bond and not thicker or thinner. Using different stocks will result in either a higher or lower punching capacity.

* This device punches paper vertically. This is a great feature because it ensures your pages will be punched correctly. There s also a depth of punch margin control so you can put the holes in the paper in just the right spot. Doing so can give your document tear resistant pages.

* This machine has an open throat and disengageable dies that allow you to work with different sizes of paper. The punching length can be as long as 13 (coil) or 14 (comb) so you ll be able to work with legal sized documents.

* Since choosing just the right comb or coil can be challenging, this machine has a diameter scale. This feature can be used to measure the thickness of your document so you can get an idea of which binding element would be a good choice.

* This machine comes with crimping pliers you can use after binding your work with color coils. These pliers aren t exactly cheap (they can cost anywhere from about $30.00 to $50.00), so it s nice that they re included with the device.

* The DuoMac has metal parts so you can count on it being durable and dependable. This is a machine that you can use for years. It also comes with a one year warranty.

Weaknesses:

* This device has three handles one for opening/closing combs, one for inserting color coils, and one for punching your paper. Two of these handles are on the right side of the device while the other is on the left side. Thus, you may find operating this machine to be a little awkward.

* The DuoMac is a completely manual machine. However, there is an electric coil inserter you can purchase separately and then add on to the device.

The Akiles DuoMac C51 has a couple of minor weaknesses, but overall, this is a fantastic device. Aside from the DuoMac series, there aren t a lot of devices that offer two binding methods, especially ones with disengageable dies and a extra long punching length. Also, the diameter scale really helps make the process easier and the inclusion of the crimping pliers is a nice money saving gesture. And the construction is also great. So if you need a binding machine that can process your documents in more than one way, give the DuoMac a look today.
