In this day and age there are many bedding products available to spruce up your bed and bedroom. Just one of these is the black duvet cover, which has and continues to cause some confusion amongst shoppers. A duvet cover is just one of many easy and simple ways that you can keep your comforter clean and looking like new. Almost anyone can experience a much better night s sleep thanks to the fluffy and extra soft feel that duvets add. The reason for the confusion amongst shoppers is in part due to naming. A duvet is also commonly known as a down comforter and is simply a blanket. Duvet covers are much like pillow cases that help keep clean and protect the duvet. Here are some simple tips to help keep your duvet and duvet cover clean and looking like new.
The easiest thing you can do to keep them clean is a little morning shake. Every morning after you wake up simply give your duvet a good shake. It might not sound like much but doing this helps to remove any dust that has collected on the duvet over night. A thorough shake each morning is a simple way to keep the duvet and cover looking fresh between washes, as it is far too impractical to wash your duvet every day and the truth is it is not required. So a simple morning shake is more than enough.
While daily washes aren t required, there will come a time that you need to wash your duvet cover. The truth is that you will wash the cover much more often than the actual duvet. How often you wash it will depend on your own preference, but it goes without saying that if your cover is starting to look a little dirty or unpleasant to touch, then you know that it is time to take the cover off and throw it in the washing machine. I would personally wash my cover at least once a week, and maybe twice during the summer season.
Washing your duvet is not something that you need to do often, but they are extremely fragile and extra care and attention needs to be given when it does come time to wash it. Since duvets are extremely large and cumbersome, the best thing you can do to clean them is to use a commercial washing machine. You probably do not have one at home, so a quick trip to your local laundromat might be in order. Washing duvets in large washing machines helps to keep them in good condition. Do not just throw it in and start washing, always be sure to read the label and follow any manufacturer instructions regarding how to wash and clean the duvet.
If you do use a dryer after washing the duvet, make sure that you set the dryer to the lowest temperature possible. You will also need to stop the dryer about half way through, take out the duvet, flip it over to shake up any damp filling and then place it back in the dryer to finish the drying process. If you do not like to use or do not have a dryer, then open air drying is another option but you will need to dry the duvet for at least 24 hours before it is completely dry.
