Choosing the right guillotine paper cutter can be a bit challenging. After all, you need to make sure it has a decent cutting capacity, good safety features, and durable construction. Luckily, German manufacturer Dahle makes a number of these devices, including their 564 Premium Guillotine Paper Cutter. This is a pretty impressive trimmer that may be right for your needs. Here are its strengths, as well as its weaknesses.

Strengths:

* The Dahle 564 has an excellent cutting capacity. It can up a maximum of 40 sheets at a time so you ll be able to get your paper cut as quickly as possible. Then you can do other things.

* This trimmer can handle paper that s up to 14.5 inches long. You ll be able to easily trim legal sized sheets that are 8.5” x 14”. You can also process other paper including sheets that are letter sized (8.5” x 11”). Plus, it s possible to use this cutter to trim thick materials including mat board and cardstock.

* Your materials will stay in place when you cut them because the Dahle 564 has a ratcheting paper clamp. The clamp will keep them straight so they ll be trimmed properly and won t fan.

* It s very easy to get an accurate cut with this device because it s equipped with a laser that will show you exactly where you should lower the blade. This feature takes much of the guesswork out of the cutting process so you ll be able to get the job done right every time.

* The Dahle 564 has a self sharpening blade that s made out of Solingen steel. This is a very durable metal that is sharp enough to simply slice through your documents. The blade is covered by a rotary guard that helps making the cutting process as safe as possible. Also, the blade won t fly up or fall down suddenly.

* This device s base is made out of metal and has both standard and metric measurements printed on it. The base is durable and it won t break or become warped no matter how much you cut. Plus, there s an adjustable backstop attached to the base that makes cutting easy.

Weaknesses:

* Since the Dahle 564 has a 14.5 inch cutting length, you won t be able to trim really large documents with it. This may or may not be a problem depending on how large your materials are.

* While this cutter has a rotary guard covering the blade, you ll still need to use a fair amount of caution when using it.

Overall, the Dahle 564 is a terrific guillotine paper cutter and it would be ideal for various work environments (offices, schools, print shops, etc.). It has some great features, such as the laser, the ratcheting paper clamp, and the rotary guard covering the blade. (The blade is terrific too, thanks to it being made out of Solingen steel.) While it can t cut very large materials, it nonetheless would be an excellent choice for your cutting needs. So check out the Dahle 564 today and start cutting.
