Herbs that are cultivated on land have been known to have some curative properties and these have been highly opted as against contemporary medicines. This is especially thanks to their soothing effects as most of these natural herbs possess rapid healing properties and leaves the patient free of the least side effects. This does not however give land grown herbs an edge over those grown in the sea. It should be noted that like herbs grown on land, those grown in the sea have also been found to have therapeutic components. In fact, every natural herbs should be considered as having something special that is of utmost help to man. Indispensable medicinal oils can be extracted from these plants and a good example is the Reed Essential Oil that is taken out from the natural but common reed plant. The importance of this oil can only be appreciated if its uses are highlighted.

The reed plant is commonly fond in Africa and measures 2.9mm by 1 1m. It buds beginning from the later stages of summer and it is common in wet regions. This plant is used for several purposes. It is an edible crop. The oil or juice extracted from it is often used as remedy to headache and constipation. The stalks can also be used for the plaiting of mats and containers. Given the medicinal importance of the plant, it is wondered why no effort has ever been made to develop the plant.

The reed plant has been existing time immemorial. A good look at the Chinese natural medicine chest will suggest that the Chinese knew about this plant more than a thousand years ago. Remember that the Chinese are highly celebrated for their love and knowledge in natural medicine. In China, this is known as Lu Gen and it is commonly used in the treatment of cough, fever and other body ailments. The roots are nutritive and are edible because of their rich sugar and starch properties. In fact, the whole plant is known to be valuable to man. What makes the reed plant suitable as a medicinal plant is the contents of it roots. The roots are known to act as medicine to cough, stimulants to the brain and are used to control the sugar level in the blood as well as bringing down the body temperature.

The reed plant has immense healing powers. It is used as an anti inflammatory to irritations in the stomach and lungs; it catalysis the discharge of juice in the body to calm down thirst; it acts as a cure to food poisoning and it mysteriously breaks up gall stone in the body. There are so many healing aspects of the reed plant which can only be experience by using the plant.

The reed plant can grow in any area that is wet. Although man has failed to look into the importance of this reed plant, it is nonetheless one of the most important herb to man and this is thankful to its healing powers.
