You must take adequate care of whatever installations you effect either in your kitchen or your bathroom in form of interior decoration or vanity items. This principle also applies to your glass sink and you have to take proper care of it. Cleaning a glass sink is not a problem. It is easier in comparison to stainless or aluminum sinks. Some acidic material can easily clean the glass without much of your efforts. However, you need to take care of certain aspects.

Never use any abrasive pads or cleaning accessories on your glass sink. You may use such thing on other bathroom vanities or the traditional sinks. Such abrasive articles could easily scratch glass items.
Moreover, at the time of cleaning you should also avoid putting any pressure on the rims of the glass. They may come loose from your countertop. You should bear in mind that the rim is the most vulnerable part you have in the glass sink. One of the best processes for cleaning would be to wipe out your sink every time you use it. This will not allow stains to develop.

Glass sink can be installed quite easily either on the vanity countertop or on the freestanding vessel. In the first case you just insert it into the countertop slot for the sink and in the second case the sink just rests on top of the stand. In either case you require a little plumbing expertise. If you set them too tight either in the countertop hole or the stand top, the glass may develop cracks. And once the glass develops chip or crack it has to be replaced. There is no other way for you. After all a broken glass is the thing that can not be repaired.

A glass sink that is created by the artisan will be quite sturdy. Anyone who manufactures glass items professionally will always take care to see that the glass item does not break owing to some minor accidents. Such minor accident could be dropping a brush inside the sink. Experts opine that things that are heavy enough to cause damage to the glass sinks when dropped inside will also cause similar damages to porcelain or still sinks as well. So there is no reason for you to consider the glass sinks to be extra brittle or more prone to accidental damages.

You may argue that more often than not all of us come across broken glass and not broken porcelain while broken steel is a rare sight. The problem does not lie with the glass sink in breakage after its installation in the countertop. Most of the problems arise before the installation itself. This means that most of the broken glass sinks are the result of improper installation. Two reasons can be there for such improper installation. The first is that the installer has made the drain assembly over tight and the second is the thermal shock sustained by the sink.

If you want your glass sink to be durable avoid over tightening, and also see that the glass ends do not touch the metal. You can assure this by using a gasket to separate metal from glass. Once these minor cares are taken your glass sink will be as durable as any other.
