Writing for the web is different from the other media. Since the Internet revolution, creating online content has been in a form of business especially with the existence of search engine optimization (SEO).

SEO is an important in structuring sentences and determining the words to use. Never before has creating online content been an activity that primarily considers the role of SEO in sorting and searching data.

If you re starting to write a content online through platforms such as a web blog, wiki, discussion post, or traditional article, you need to learn the basics and master them. This will provide you an advantage especially when you re creating online content to sell a product or promote an item or a service.

Online writing, as compared to the traditional way of writing in newspapers and magazines, is different because of the new medium. Writing for the web allows the author to become more interactive, or conversational. Having a personal tone is an advantage for online writers because they are distinguishing themselves from a host of other writers. They make readers feel as if they re talking to a friend.

The most popular format for creating online content is through blogging. Bloggers or authors of blog are often informal and engaging when conversing with their readers through words. They do not only write blog entries but they post comments on their blog and other s as well.

Remember to keep your sentences clear and your entries short when you blog. Research your subjects carefully. Most blogs contain erroneous information since many bloggers are used to copying the works of other bloggers and rehash them to disguise their unoriginality.

Unlike blogging, wikis are not a venue for writing in a personal style. It s similar to reporting the news in that you simply have to present the facts straight without placing your analysis or opinion. Whereas blogging can lend a room for an outrageous comment, wikis only allows neutral language.

It is clear that creating online content varies on the platform you use. Besides having blogs and wikis, another interesting platform that allows you to generate content is the discussion boards.

Discussion boards are similar to having a radio talk show. You don t ask a yes or no question. You rather ask open ended questions that would solicit continuous reactions from your online audience. In this type of format, the shorter sentences would be better since people would comment on a single thought one at a time.

In general, creating online content whether it s a blog, a wiki, or a post toa discussion board, follows the same rule of writing as with writing for the traditional medium.

Your words should be clear and simple and your sentences brief and well constructed. Get rid of clutter words or words that you employ only to make your sentences appear lengthier. Focus on thoughts and not on the best words to use.

Like news writing, creating online content should be regularly updated and should employ active verbs and stronger adjectives.
