If you frequently use Craigslist then you are probably aware that IP is a big issue when it comes to posting ads on Craigslist. Craigslist tracks and logs all IP activity. This is done by Craigslist for a variety of reasons, the main one being to stop spammers and others who want to abuse and overpost their ads on Craigslist. This includes people from within the United States and those who live outside of the United States. The downside to this is that sometimes this also affect people who post on Craigslist but are not spammers. If you happen to be using the same IP range as a spammer is, then you will find that you are also blocked from posting on Craigslist. Luckily, there are a few ways that you can get change and get different IPs so you can keep posting ads on Craigslist.
The first solution to being on an IP blocked range is to use dialup. Dialup is generally assigned a dynamic IP each time you connect to the internet. This meaning that each time you dial in you will get a different IP. Immediately this solves your problem and provides you with a different IP each time you connect to the internet. The downside to dialup is that it is extremely slow. If you are a casual poster then dialup might be a viable alternative, but anyone else will probably find dialup a little too slow to tolerate. The second solution is through the use of air cards. Air cards offer wireless access to the internet. Again, similar to dialup they offer a new IP each time you connect to the internet. They are much faster and offer broadband like speeds so aren t as slow as dialup. However, air cards have been used and abused by many people on Craigslist for years and as a result many people believe Craigslist has blocked or at least red flagged the IPs used by Craigslist. Therefore you may find that an air card does not solve your problem of needing a fresh new IP that isn t already blocked. A third solution is to actually renew or refresh your own IP from your current internet provider. If you are on DSL that is dynamic, you can do this by simply reconnecting to the internet. However, many people can not get a fresh IP doing this even though they may be on a dynamic connection. One solution to this is to disconnect and power down/off your modem over night. When you power it up the next morning you should find that you have a different IP. You can also try using ipconfig /release, turn off and on your modem then ipconfig /renew. This is probably the easiest and best solution but for many it still does not work. They are either on fixed IPs or just unable to get a different dynamic IP. The fourth solution, and this may help those who can t get a new IP via powering down their modem, is to change your network card s MAC address. You can do this by either getting a new network card or by using some MAC software that allows you to manually edit the number. This method while many times effective can be risky and you may cause damage to your network card making it unusable. A fifth solution is for those who may have an iPhone or other mobile device that has internet access. You can connect your computer through your iPhone and each time you disable and enable wireless/airplane mode you should have a new IP. This is a simple method but for those without an iPhone or similar device it isn t of much use. The final and probably most effective solution to getting a different IP is through the use of a proxy server, specifically an elite proxy server. The reason this is one of the better solutions is because it works no matter where you are in the world, offers broadband like speeds and you are the only person who has access to it. With an elite proxy your IP is shown as in the USA (or any other country you need) and you access it via a username and password specified by you. You may also be able to select which cities or areas the IPs come from in the USA. Within an instant you are able to change/rotate IPs so you can be using a New York IP one minute and a Chicago IP the next. Elite proxies are not free, but for those serious about posting on Craigslist it is the best solution.
Even if your IP range has been blocked on Craigslist, because of your own actions or others, you can easily change or get a new IP through the use of one of the many methods listed above. However, due to the flexibility, ease of use and access to different IPs, setting up an elite proxy server is the best method to get a new IP for posting ads on Craigslist with.
