If you've never owned a cockatiel before then chances are you don't know what kind of cage you need. In order for cockatiel to live happily and safely, then there are some specific things you need to know about their cages. I have provided you with five tips to help you pick the right birdcage for your cockatiel.

1. Appropriate Living Space for Your Cockatiel - When you're thinking of buying and cockatiel birdcage, it has to have the right amount of space for the bird. You need to make sure that it has enough room to stretch and flap its wings. In a you take into consideration the length of your cockatiels tail is you don't want it to drag on the floor get hung up.

2. How Big - When you're trying to determine how big of a cage you should get, you need to take into account all of the items that you have inside the cage as well. Items such as perches, toys, and food and water dishes can take up a lot of space, so try not to clutter it up too much.

3. The Spacing of the Bars - Before you buy any cockatiel birdcage you need to make sure that the spacing of the bars will not allow the cockatiel to stick it's head through it. As a standard the spacing shouldn't be any more than 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.

4. How the Bars Are Laid out - Your cockatiel loves to climb so you need to make sure that the cage you buy has bars that run vertically as well as horizontally. Don't go buying any cage that doesn't have verticle bars on it.

5. Easy to Clean - One thing that's really important when you have a birdcage is that it's easy to clean. This is not only good for you it's good for the birds health as well. It is a good idea to buy a cage with a removable plastic tray on the bottom of it. Anything that makes the cleaning of the cage easier is a good thing, for you as well as for the bird.

Using the steps as a guideline to buying any cockatiel cage could help you to make a good decision on which cage to buy. There are a lot of different styles and shapes, and it will all boil down to your taste.
