If you are fortunate to have a beautiful bay window in your lounge finding the right window dressing can be a bit tricky! While the more traditional style curtain tracks still work very well there are some great alternatives to consider.

* If you need privacy and lots of it, then it may be wise to opt for vertical or Venetian blinds which give you complete control over the amount of light entering the room, whilst their versatility means you can adjust the angle of the louvers to stop prying eyes. Blinds are a great alternative to somewhat old fashioned net curtains!

* If blinds aren’t your preferred style then you could swap traditional net curtains for individual sheer fabric panels for each window of the bay. Continental styles which have pointed ends with pretty tassels provide privacy and give a more modern look.

* Curtain styles can basically be what you want! For large bay windows traditional styles with coordinating fabric covered pelmets and hung from curtain tracks, can be brought up to date with modern fabric designs such a bold geometric patterns to coordinate with your interior design theme.

* Full length curtains are ideal for bay windows unless of course you have box seating incorporated! In the past floor to ceiling curtains in heavy damask and brocades were used to help keep out draughts, however with most homes having central heating this is not so much of an issue, unless you live in an old house which does not have double glazed windows or central heating! If this is the case or if you are loosing too much heat through your windows wholesale fabric warehouses have an abundance of great modern and traditional styles of heavy weight fabrics and curtains to choose from.

* Curtain lining are also a great way to help heat loss and reduce unwanted light from filtering through the fabric. Lining curtains will also help them to hang properly and prevent the fabric from fading in strong sunlight.

* With the introduction of curtain poles designed to fit bay windows it is now possible to use the latest ready made curtains design trends of eyelet or tab tops to dress a bay window as well as the more traditional method of curtain rings. These adjustable poles are a great alternative to traditional tracking and enable all weights of fabrics to be used.

* Choose curtain poles with the correct diameter to suit the weight of the curtain fabric. The heavier the fabric the larger the diameter needs to be!

* Select a bay window curtain pole which coordinates with your room’s interior deign. There are a wide range of poles available, from natural wood to brushed metal finishes and brass colours.

* The end finials should also coordinate with your style theme. Opt for modern blown glass with bubble effects for a chic modern look, spirals and shepherds crook design are ideal for metal poles while wooden poles are perfect with acorn or plain spheres. Brass poles look stunning with a sphere shaped finial.
