Do you fall into the trap that a lot of people do? That trap is working out for a short period of time and then not working out at all. It is common for someone to get extremely motivated for a short period of time and then lose that motivation over time and discontinue their workouts all together.
I have 3 easy tips for you to follow in order to keep the motivation.
1. Set Long Term Goals: Set a goal for 6 months later instead of just setting goals to work out a certain amount of times a week. Setting long term goals will keep you focused on working out for longer periods of time. If you only have short term goals then you will most likely complete those goals quickly and quit.
2.Follow a routine or special workout plan: There are tons of great workout plans out there that last 3 months, 4 months 6 months and even longer. If you commit to following the plan and seeing it all the way to the end, then you have a higher chance of working out for a long period of time.
3.Make it a habit: If you can work out enough times in a row you can create a habit. We humans are creatures of habit and working out falls right into that scenario. Creating a habit of exercise is the best way to insure that you will work out continually. Creating a habit is best done by working out the same time every day and on the same days. Do this for a long period of time and it will become a habit. An exercise habit is the healthiest habit there is.
Places to workout
Where is the best place to work out? You can choose the gym, your home, outside or any place you want. I suggest that you workout wherever you feel the most comfortable. Many people do not like the gym, but many people can never find the time at home to workout. Here is a list of 3 “odd” places that you may like to work out.
1. The Mall: A lot of people workout at the mall. In fact some malls even open their doors a few hours early to let walkers and runners inside to exercise. This creates a much safer place to exercise compared to exercising by yourself on the street. It is indoors and therefore you can work out in any weather. It is free. If you have kids it is a perfect place to push them in a stroller.
2. The local swimming pool: Believe it or not swimming is the best total body exercise that exists. Many public pools have exercise lap swims open to the public. Most people do not know about this so you may find that not too many people show up. It may cost you a few dollars, but not more than a gym membership costs.
3. The park: If you are someone that likes to work out outside then you should try heading over to your local park. Often times they have wonderful trails, lots of people, which means safety and if there is a lake then you have a great place to cool off after the workout. Give it a shot.
