Some people may consider this spying, and to tell you the truth, it is leaning in that direction. The search engines that have these websites listed are also a source of great information for those of you who are in competition with them. Not only will you be able to find all of the webpages that are listed in the search engines on those websites, you will also be able to get other information, such as where the links to the website are coming from.
This can be done manually, or you can buy software, such as SEO Elite that will compile the information for you. The Yahoo search engines still gives accurate details as far as the links that are coming into any domain, and it can be utilized by typing the following into the search engine itself, link:domain.com. Analyzing where these different links are coming from can often give you some direction for you to take in your own linking process. If somebody thought enough of their website in order to give them links, they may be willing to do the same for you.
Another thing for you to look at is the structure of your competition s website. Although it is always a good idea for you to constantly be testing different methods of increasing the amount of sales that you re getting, you can often find a lot of interesting information by simply looking at the way they have their website set up. This is especially the case if they are particularly Internet savvy, as they will no doubt be testing different methods of increasing their sales as well.
It is always a good idea for you to be an individual and you certainly should never outright copy any other website as this would be a violation of copyright laws.
