Many people who begin a business on the Internet tend to look at it a little bit differently than they would look at an off line business that they may be running. They think that the Internet is some kind of scary place where you would never put yourself out as an individual and allow your customers, or potential customers to really get to know you. This can be the deathstroke of an Internet business and as more and more people are entering into the marketplace, you need to set yourself apart as an individual instead of simply blending in.
Look at it this way, what if you were to open a store in your local town and you decided you were never going to have any conversations or interact with the customers in any way. When they came into your store, you would simply ring them up with a blank stare on your face and then point them toward the door. You might even try to gather information so that you can contact them again, and if they gave it to you you should just contact them blindly without trying to build a relationship with them. How long do you think that your store would remain open? You can expect the same thing from your online business when you are working this way.
At times, your Internet business is going to be working with thousands of people at one time and you may find it a bit difficult to get personal with that many individuals. The simple fact is, it is not necessary for you to know each of them on an individual basis, you simply need to let them know that you value them as an individual. If one of them would happen to contact you with some kind of need, make sure that you take care of them as if they were your only customer. Good news about you as a businessperson will spread very quickly, whether it is online or off line. Bad news will spread even faster.
It is also a good idea if you set up a social media network in order to interact with your potential customers as well. Two of the best places to do this are on Twitter and FaceBook. There are hundreds of millions of people that have accounts at these two different places and you need to make sure that you are using them regularly in order to interact and set yourself apart from your competition.
When you are an individual and a real person in the eyes of your potential clients, something amazing will happen. They will buy from you, even if somebody else has a better offer. Make sure that you connect with your people in any way that you possibly can, allowing them to see you for what you are. Above all, remember that the Internet is simply a big marketplace and you should not be afraid to put yourself out there as an individual, your business will grow as a result.
