Bunk beds are a creative use of space and they are available in many different colors, shapes and sizes. Bunk beds are available in a variety of materials including woods and metal and are available with several options including bookshelves, desks, and play space below. They also come with the option of larger beds, not just twin. It is unreal how many choices, which are available for bunk beds.

We decided to use bunk beds in my oldest son s room when we moved into our new house. We thought it was a great choice because it allowed us to have the same amount of sleeping space as a couple of twin beds but used less floor space. The bed came with twin beds and bookshelves on one end and a desk on the other. It is made from knotty pine.

When we decided to build our weekend house on the river, we decided to include a loft to be used to sleep extra over night quests. Our goal was to sleep as many quests as comfortably as possible. The best way we found was to utilize bunk beds in the loft. We were able to use the same amount of floor space as twin beds and sleep double the amount of quests. It worked out to be the perfect choice for us and the kids love that room.

It is amazing at the different options available for bunk beds. They even come with queen beds on the bottom. In fact, my nephew has a metal bunk bed with a twin bed on top and a queen futon bed on the bottom. This set up allows him to utilize the bottom futon as a couch for watch television or playing his video games with his friends and then make it out into a bed for sleeping.

We have seen several times when on vacation where condominiums have utilized bunk beds in smaller spaces. Most recently, we saw where a condominium utilized a large closet in the hall to house a set of twin bunk beds for extra guests.

They had used bi fold doors to close the space off when it was not being used. It allowed us to sleep everyone comfortably in beds. The kids thought it was a space created just for them and they loved it.

When we were looking for bunk beds to use in my sons room we were amazed at the different creative bunk beds available. For boys, we saw beds that were made to resemble a fort with a tent cover on top and material like a tent on the bottom boxing in a space to look like a fort. We also saw choices for girls that were made to resemble a palace or castle with towers on top, for a little girl. They were so neat.

Every year there seems to be a new design of bunk bed from which to choose. These can be made of anything from metal tubes to wood, to pre formed or modular plastic. Bunk beds are superb for utilising vertical space in a room to increase floor space. Bunk beds vary in design from the classic one on one shape to L shapes, where the space created under the top bunk can be used for storage, as a desk for your child s studies or play, or for a TV or PC. Bunk beds may have a double bed on the lower bunk, with a single above. This is great for teenagers.

There are also some ingenious systems for adding more storage space such as pull out drawers under the lower bunk, or the ability to convert the lower bunk into a handy sofa for older children to have visitors. Bed ladders can be removable, be part of the bed frame, or a stair system built in.

Bunk beds may be removable, meaning that you can separate the bed into two if a new room becomes available and you want to split up the kids.

Bunk beds are great for adults too, creating an extra bed to sleep guests. Holiday cabins and ski chalets often boast bunk beds, sometimes in rustic log fashion, with extra storage space.

In summary, bunk beds can make use of small areas, can be great for storage and hiding away toys and bedding, can provide privacy and desk space for your future Bill Gates, and are great for sleepovers and extra sleeping space. And aside from their practicality, remember that they also make great inter galactic time machines!
