The 21st century has enabled home owners to take greater control of the detail design of their homes, thanks to the advances in modern manufacturing techniques, and the result has been a growing desire for people to invest in detail changes that make the overall design stand out.

The kitchen has become one of the prime areas for advanced design in the race for beauty and functionality, and with fitted units and a fantastic array of sink basins and cupboards on the market, many people overlook the ability to add detail in the form of one of the most overlooked and necessary items that every kitchen contains – the faucet.

The kitchen faucet is, quite simply, a device that regulates the flow of water from the system, but it need not be disregarded as merely functional; the range of faucets available on the market these days is truly amazing, and the beauty and style of your choice of faucet can be the detail that make your kitchen stand out among the crowd.

Design awoken in recent years

The traditional faucet – the hot and cold mixer – stood at a design standstill for many years, but designers have let their imagination loose on a wide variety of different variations on the theme, from the supremely modern to the traditional but beautiful.

If you are aiming for a modern look you may well have opted for a stainless steel, modern look sink that complements your modern and stylish fitted kitchen. In this case, you have a very wide choice of kitchen faucet, for there is every shape and form available for your perusal.

Wall mounted modern faucet

Some prefer the modern, sleek version that is mounted at the back of the sink basin, rising as a single form and splitting into two spouts that dispense hot or cold, while others prefer the ones that dispense hot and cold from the same outlet.

Either way, these can be designed to look very modern indeed, with the spout sometimes fashioned as a slim and sleek detail that advances across the sink a short way and is designed to send the water into the basin at the correct point.

More modern still, and much preferred by interior designers these days, is the version that is mounted not on the basin, but on the wall behind the basin. This can provide a very futuristic, sometimes space age, effect as the connection between the faucet and the sink cannot be seen, and is considered slick and streamlined in modern design terms.

Traditional or retro

If it is a less modern and more traditional, or even retro, look that you require, faucets are offered in many styles that have been around for a long time, but with modern manufacture and operation built into the traditional design.

A ceramic butlers basin, for instance, can be fitted with modern made but antique style faucets to carry the look right through, getting the desired effect but without the rigours of the antique manufacture.

Whatever your requirements, a faucet for your kitchen will be there among the vast range available to the buyer today.
