Achieving a high score in GMAT is essential if you want to enrol into a top class business school, and with the knowledge of the right methods to improve your mathematical skills, you can easily achieve a 99 percentile in your math section. So follow the following tips diligently. You could very well achieve an exceptionally high score for your GMAT math section.

1) Focus and brush up on your fundamentals

GMAT math centre is very similar to high school math, so remember to focus and brush up on your fundamentals if you cannot easily recall what you’ve studied years ago. All you have to do is grab some high school math books and familiarise yourself with the mathematical concepts and skills published.

2) Be familiar with word problems

It’s a fact that those with high GMAT scores are extremely good at solving word problems. After all, approximately 30 per cent of the math questions are word problems. Being good at word problems is not an impossible task. You don’t have to understand new math topics or concepts. You just need to understand word problems word by word in the same order. Do not jumble it up or rearrange the sequence. If you translate it correctly, these word problems will then be easily solved.

3) Practise intensively

Even if you enrol into a GMAT course, it’s important that you continue to practise even when you are not in the classroom with your tutor. Sure, being exposed to the fundamentals of the exam during the course is sufficient for you to pass, but unless you practise intensively, you will not get exceptional results. Practising often will also help you learn to solve problems the quickest way. If you think you need to use a complicated formula for any of the problems, think again. Find out about any possible shortcuts to working a problem before the test date.

4) Take practice tests

Besides just being familiar with the types of questions asked in the exams, you still have to carry out plenty of practices with simulated tests. This will further increase your familiarity with the format of the test.

5) Choose the right study material for you

Given recent developments with the sale of GMAT CD/DVD, audio books and flash cards, the search for the best study guide has become extremely challenging. So instead of being led to believe a certain GMAT material is the best, choose the best material that you believe will work for you.

Follow the given tips and you should be able to excel for your math test section. Don’t be scared of GMAT math. Start by thoroughly studying the fundamentals as well as concepts, and putting what you’ve learnt into endless practice. Once you’ve started that, learn to solve the problems in a multitude of ways, use shortcuts to save time and guess intelligently when you are stumped. Once you’ve mastered these tips, achieving a 99 percentile in GMAT math will not be a far fetched thought at all.
