The Martin Yale 1501x is a paper folding machine that might make a good choice for churches, schools, and small businesses. In the following review, we will present to you the strengths and weaknesses of this folding machine as we see them.

Strengths:

1. At a peppy eight thousand sheets per hour, we found that the 1510x is a fast and capable machine. One thing we really liked about it was the large feed hopper that holds up to two hundred sheets at a time. We find this to be a great feature, as it means that we won t be stuck standing and feeding paper to the machine during most small to medium folding projects.

2. Though the 1501x is designed to be used in folding letter and legal size sheets, it is also capable of handling sizes from three and a half by five inches to eight and three quarters by fourteen inches. That is some pretty fair flexibility at this price point.

3. The 1501x includes guides and markings that will help you to set the machine up for letter, half, z, and double parallel folding. If you wish, you can also manually adjust the fold plates to enable custom folds and sizes of paper.

4. One great feature that we really appreciated was the manual feed bypass, which makes it possible for the user to feed sets of stapled sheets (up to three pages) into the machine.

Weaknesses:

1. This is a machine that requires manual setup, meaning that for each of the different folding styles it is capable of, the user will need to move the folding plates into the correct position by hand. This is fine for most organizations that will generally need to do only one folding style, or at the very least will not be changing styles very often. If you think you will need to change styles on a regular basis, you might want to look into purchasing an auto change machine such as the Martin Yale 1701 or the Intimus SmartFold 2051.

2. The 1501x is a great machine for folding the more standard weights and stocks of paper, up to twenty eight lb. However, if you are going to try and fold heavier items such as card stock or coated glossy sheets, you will probably want to look elsewhere. These paper types are likely to lead to paper jams and misfeeds on the 1501x. These types of items are difficult to fold on most low cost and mid range paper folding machines.

3. The 1501x works wonderfully on legal and letter sized sheets and is a great choice for organizations that will only need to fold these sizes of paper. However, it should be noted that it is not designed to handle anything larger than that. If you think that you will ever need to fold eleven by seventeen or any other large sheets, you should probably look elsewhere at a larger paper folding machine.

Recommendation: The 1501x is a great choice for churches, schools and small businesses. However, print shops and other business service industries should probably find a larger more versatile paper folder that offers automatic setup and the ability to deal with larger sheet sizes and heavier paper stocks.
