Strengths:

1. First of all, the PC 2005 has a certain amount of rarity on its side. There are a large number of spiral coil binding machines on the market that punch in a 4:1 ratio, but your choices are limited for 5:1 machines. The PC 2005 has you covered in that regard, which is a good thing.

2. Seeing as how pitch five to one pitch coils are only available to you at sizes up to an inch, the PC 2005 s electric inserter can be used when you are binding any document with all of the available sizes of five to one coils.

3. As we have come to expect from all of Rhino s line, the PC 2005 is a durable, rugged machine that is made of metal components, and as such should provide you with many years of use. In fact, the only thing we found that might ever need replacing at all is the rubber wheel that is located on the coil inserter. With a name like Rhino, you would expect the machine to be tough, and by all appearances it is.

4. We really liked the unique design of the PC 2005 s coil inserter, and found that it made inserting coils of all different lengths a rather simple process. This versatile unit can be used with elements that range in size from six to thirty six inches long. There is a handy and effective chute on the right side of the machine that helps you guide the coil onto your document, and there are also mandrels that will help you ensure that the coil will spin into the book every single time. There is even a handy guide that helps you to keep the book in perfect position during the insertion process.

Weaknesses:

1. We were surprised that for such a tough and rugged machine, the PC 2005 has a relatively small punching capacity of around twelve pages of 20lb paper at a time. Depending on how you are going to use the PC 2005 this may or may not be a problem. Lighter duty users should get by with no issues, but if you are in a higher capacity production environment, you may find that the PC 2005 will slow you down a little bit.

2. We were unpleasantly surprised to find that, for some reason, Rhino made the PC 2005 able to insert longer coils, but did not include any disengageable dies on the punch. This means that any user who attempt to punch documents longer than eleven inches will end up with an incomplete hole on the edge. We are truly a little bit puzzled at this omission.

3. Though the PC 2005 s innovative design makes is well suited for handling coils that are of a longer length, the inserter is still quite a bit more difficult to use than a typical roller coil style. That doesn t mean it s inferior, just that there will be a bit of a learning curve until you are able to achieve the kind of pace you may have been used to with the roller style of inserter.
