When it comes to playing Cornhole, you can be as casual or as serious as you want. After all, Cornhole (which is also known as Baggo, Bags, and Corn Toss) is a very popular game for backyard barbeques, tailgate parties, and holiday gatherings.

It is also popular among the bar scene, as a fundraising event, and even has US National playoffs annually.

To play the addicting game of Cornhole is simple enough for anyone to learn. All you need is the Cornhole board and 4 or 8 corn filled beanbags that weight about a pound each. You can play with one board or two, singles or doubles. Heck, if you’re just playing for fun, you can do pretty much whatever you want, right?

But to master the game is another thing. Ruling over your opponents is all in the toss.

The overall goal is to get 21 points before your opponent. You score 3 points for each cornhole, which is when your bag goes into the hole. You can toss it into the hole directly on your turn, or knock it in later with subsequent bags.

You score 1 point for each bag that stays on the board, but does not make it into the hole. Naturally, the advantage comes when you can make more cornholes than your opponents.

This is where strategy and practice comes into play. The best way to get a cornhole, according to many players, is to use a combination of arc and slide when throwing the bean bag. You want just enough arc to land the bag on the board and let it slide into the hole.

If you toss with too much arc, you need to be very precise in your toss since it will land with a plop and not slide. Basically, you need to be very proficient at a hole in one with a high arc toss. But in and of themselves, high arc tosses are subject to a lot of error.

But if you toss with too little arc, the bag will slide when it lands. The less arc, the more likely the bag is to slide off the back of the board, scoring you no points whatsoever.

Now, there are times when low and high arc can come in handy, especially if you want to land low in front of opponent’s bags and knock them off. Or you might have some of your own bags sitting in front of the hole and you need to knock them in.

The other trick to arc and slide is to know the board you’re playing on and the bags you’re playing with. If you play with your own equipment every time, you know how they play. But when using other people’s boards and bags, remember the some boards are more slick than others. Likewise, the bags used might have more slide to them naturally due to the material they’re made of, their age, and the filling used.

Either way, win or lose, we’ll bet you’ll have fun no matter what.
