Because their are soo good many people arond this big world truly love to eat waffles for their breakfast. Because they are so versatile in what you can put on them, many people even love to have them for dessert. All that they are made from is a batter that is cooked between to hotplates. The plates have what is referred to as a waffle pattern in them which give the waffle their unique pattern. This waffle grid pattern works exceptionally well to give your toppings nice little indentations to settle in and soak up providing you with an exceptionally flavorful waffle. People began making waffles back in the Middle Ages. The earliest waffle irons were used on top of a wood stove or a fire and were simply made of two steel plates with a hinge on them. Peddlers used to sell these on the street and can still be seen selling them on the streets of Belgium and other countries. It was a little more difficult to use those early waffle irons then it is the modern makers as you had to understand the exact temperature the waffle irons needed to be without the help of any light and went to take a waffle out.
Enough nostalgia though, as there are not very many people who use those old style waffle irons anymore as the convenience of the new waffle irons is just too nice. The really nice thing about these is the fact that it makes it incredibly easy for anybody to make waffles. Any new waffle maker that you buy these days is going to have a thermostat on it as well as sensors and timers which let you know when to put the batter on hand when the waffle is complete. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part waffle makers these days are affordable for most people and they are also very easy to clean with their removable plates and nonstick coverings.
The Belgian waffle maker is quite popular among waffle aficionados. Waffles are incredibly easy to make with one of these little units. Belgian waffle makers are a smaller unit than your standard waffle maker, but they give you a thicker waffle with larger holes for your toppings. You really don't have any limitations on the type of waffle batter you use whether you like sticky and sweet or savory with herbs the choice is yours. Whatever type of recipe you enjoy can be used on these.
You can even find some waffle makers that allow you to flip the plates over and use them to grill things like Panini sandwiches or other goodies. These multipurpose machines are perfect for anybody who likes a kitchen appliance with more than one use.
