The clean and classy lines of Roman Blinds will give an updated look to any room in your home. Valances, curtains or simply by itself are the options available for this blind. Affix it to the inside or outside of the window frame. Roman Blinds are created with light or medium gauge fabric that includes a lining.
You are going to need the following materials: Fabric, lining, dowel strips 1. 25 inches shorter than the width of the blind, 0. 5 inch plastic rings, a brass or wood acorn, nylon cord, wall cleat, Velcro, 1 x 1 , wooden batten and 4 screw eyelets.
Hang the track or batten where you want.
At the edge of the batten, affix the Velcro.
At the top of the batten, measure down for the length of your blind. Include the hem allowance. The quantity of lining and fabric is the same.
The blind and batten are of equal widths. Include a seam allowance of 1 inch.
Add 2 inches to the length and width when you cut the lining and fabric.
Place both with right sides together on a smooth area. Pin them together after smoothing out wrinkles. Stitch 1 from the trim down the sides and across the bottom.
Cut the corners at located at the bottom. 0. 25 inches from the edge, and sew. Insert a dowel in the middle of the sets of stitches.
Take the pins out and turn it right side out. Iron the material.
With the lining facing you, reinsert the pins.
2 inches from the edge at the top, draw a line. In 8 to 12 inch sections, mark a spot on the fabric. Continue marking rest of the length. The bottom should have a half section. Where you marked at, continue the line to other side.
For the dowel pockets use 3 inch strips of lining material. The length needs to be the same as the width of blind. For better wear, cut pieces length wise. Use a strip for each crease. Bend the strip in 1/2 width wise. 0. 5 inches from the border, attach one end. Turn fabric the right way and iron.
0. 5 inches from the marks, attach the folded side of the pocket with pins. Sew at the marks.
Insert the dowel into the pockets and close.
Hand sew the rings at the edges of the pocket. Measure 2 inches from the edge. Space them 8 to 16 inches from one another. Turn down 1 inch to the wrong side at the top and iron.
Use pins on the wrong side of the material at the top to fasten the Velcro. Close the fabric by folding it over. Sew in the same direction when stitching the sides.
Affix the Velcro pieces together.
Atop each ring and at the bottom of the blind, attach an eyelet. The eyelet at the bottom should be placed on the same side that the blind will operate from.
Cut 3 pieces of cord and string it through the rings near the bottom of the blind. Thread them through each ring on the way to the top. At the batten, thread the cord through it. Gather all three cords to one side.
Make the cords even by cutting them. Attach the cords to the acorn and knot them. Put a cleat on the side of the window with the strings. Haul the blind up, in a figure eight around the cleat.
