One of the fasted and most affordable ways to increase the value of a home is to remove old carpeting and replace it with tiles. When the correct tiles are selected and installed in a home many people feel that they have turned their ordinary home into an extraordinary home.

Many people who install tile throughout a home make the error of using the same tile throughout. This can be a costly mistake. Selecting the appropriate tile for each area in which tile will be installed can maintain continuity throughout the home. While the tiles may look the same, high traffic tiles are much more appropriate for any high traffic areas in a home.

The main factor in selecting tile types is to evaluate the use that one s floor has on a daily basis. A home with young children running through it has much more traffic, spills, and stains, than a home where a sedate couple live. By determining the activities that take place in different locations of the home, it is easy to determine which areas need a heavy duty tile and which will do well with a more delicate tile.

The texture and type of tile selected also will impact the safety of the residents of the home. Textured tiles provide a slip resistant and stain resistant surface. Some tiles are beautiful by are not able to withstand the spills and stains that may occur on a regular basis.

Even after deciding on the type of tiles that one will use, there will be multiple choices in color, design, and size. While many people choose their tile color and design based on the color of their rooms or the decor of the home, it is important to take other factors into consideration.

When it is installed correctly, tile can last for a lifetime. In most cases, tiles that are installed properly remain in pristine condition through several color changes, decor adjustments, and growth in the family. Selecting tiles that provide a design and color that will blend with any color or decor and be timeless is very beneficial.

There are some homes that have tile rooms that reflect the era in which the tile was installed. People looking in the room will not which era the home was built by the tile that is on the floor and walls. The fact that the tile has remained beautiful all of those years and is still as durable as when it was installed does not overcome the blue, white, or pink tile colors popular in the fifties.

A good idea when selecting tiles is to buy some squares of tiles that one likes and place them strategically in the room where they will be located. This is a very inexpensive way to find the tiles that are most effective for the individual who will be living with them.

In some cases the design that most appeals to a person will be one that will not stay in style for the length of time that the tiles will last. When this is the case, it is a good idea to plan on a replacement date for upgrading the tiles at some time in the future. Saving for the expense of upgrading will save money and time when one is ready to sell their home.

Discussing the locations that one is going to place tiles and the functions and activities that will be done in that area with a professional will be helpful. A professional who has experience with the different types of tiles, their durability and functional benefits can save a person money when they are planning on installing tiles throughout a home.
