If your bedroom or office is full of books, papers, and other clutter, you know it s impossible to function in a mess. It may seem equally impossible to get everything organized, especially if you are a parent or work long hours. The good news is that you can get a handle on the clutter just by purchasing some wall shelves and putting items on them. Most commonly, people use shelving to store collectible items, although they can also be used to store books, CD s, and papers. Strategically placed shelving can also divide a room into sections so that you can train your mind to work in a certain area. Both of these uses for shelving can help you focus better.

Shelving does not necessarily mean bookcases, either. There are an infinite number of sizes and styles; you can get something that fills the room, or something that blends into the background; something cheap like plastic or wood, or expensive like glass or acrylic; and a number of shapes.

Shelving comes in a variety of finishes such as oak, mahogany, or stainless steel. You also can get adjustable shelving if that meets your needs and preferences, fixed shelving, hanging shelving, or even mobile shelving. Whatever you choose can easily show off your personality while helping you get more organized.

Adjustable shelving is the most popular choice, probably because of its extreme versatility. They can easily be fastened to walls and just as easily removed; if you like to re arrange your furniture or aren t sure what you are going to be using the shelving for, this is an excellent choice. You can also purchase shelving on tracks, which allows you to quickly and easily adjust the height of each shelf.

This feature is ideal for parents. You can put it in your children s rooms and adjust it for their height so that they can put away their toys and books themselves. As they grow taller, you can easily move the shelves.

When choosing shelving, the most important consideration is its durability. Some shelves are made of materials that cannot hold heavy items such as books; this may not be the best choice for you. If in doubt, you might want to go with steel shelving, as this material is very durable and can withstand most ordinary weights.

Shelving with racks is also useful if you are storing several different types of items. The racks can be divided into compartments so that you can organize papers or other materials.

Shelves are a vital part of your organization plan, whether you are at home or at work. Once you put up your shelving, you ll notice that clutter magically disappears from the area, leaving you free to think clearly. When purchasing shelving, consider its practical use as well as your personal taste. And always make sure that any shelving meant to be used in a living room or other place where others can see it matches the style of the rest of the furniture in the room.
