Strengths:
* The 2500 can handle large items without any problem. Its throat can accept documents that are up to 25 inches wide. You can also laminate objects that are up to 300 feet long, so long as your laminating cartridge has enough film in it for such a big project. This machine can work with materials such as foam board, provided the item you re working with isn t more than 3/16 inches thick.
* Xyron laminators are unique because in addition to laminating, they provide several other functions, such as the ability to cover a side of your document with adhesive. The 2500 can do this, as well as apply laminate to one side of your item while making the other side sticky. So not only can the 2500 be used for document preservation and strengthening, you can use it for preparing presentations, storyboards, art projects, and so on.
* This device utilizes Xyron s patented line of laminate and adhesive rolls. These rolls are easy to install and remove so switching between functions isn t time consuming or difficult.
* There are three different types of adhesive available: standard, high tack (meaning: very permanent), and repositionable. All of these bonding agents are acid free and they don t create a mess. Nor are they smelly.
* This is a professional grade machine that can be used even by beginners because it s easy to operate. No electricity is required to operate the 2500 as it is a completely manual machine. As a bonus, you won t waste time waiting for the machine to warm up, as you would with a hot laminator.
Weaknesses:
* As mentioned above, this is a cold process laminator that doesn t need power. That means this machine cannot be used for hot lamination, unfortunately.
* You might feel somewhat limited in your roll options because you can only use Xyron cartridges with the 2500. Xyron s laminating films are high quality to be sure, but the company doesn t manufacture specialty films. This is definitely something you will want to consider if you need to use those types of materials.
