If you think about binding machines, one of the first names that may pop into your head is General Binding Corporation. GBC (as it s more commonly called) has become one of the most respected names in the office machine world thanks to their long history of making high quality binding devices. (The company has been in business since the 1940s.) These products can be used with a variety of supplies such as wire spines, plastic combs, and the company s own ProClick spines. Here s a short introduction to some of GBC s binding machines.

Plastic comb. There s no doubt about it: GBC manufactures some of the best plastic comb binding machines around, and they offer both large and small models that can fit a variety of needs. For example, one of the smaller devices available is the CombBind C75, which can bind documents containing up to 125 pages. This product is reasonably priced and a great choice if your office needs a basic binder that will only be used occasionally. If you have a bigger budget and want something a little bit more elaborate for the production of thicker booklets, the CombBind C800Pro is an electric device that works quickly to punch and bind booklets containing more than 400 pages. There s even a portable comb binder: the CombBind C55, a lightweight model with a built in handle that s perfect if you need to create professional looking documents away from the office. In addition to these three products, the company manufactures other machines that can fit your budget while providing you with the punching and binding capacities you need.

ProClick. Another thing that sets GBC apart from its competitors is the company s production of ProClick spines. ProClick spines are easy to use and best of all, they can be opened up after your document is bound, allowing you to add or remove pages as necessary. Although it s possible to use ProClick spines with the special plastic tool that s included in every box, GBC does make a couple of machines that can make using these materials even easier. The ProClick P50 is a very small device that can punch up to 6 sheets at a time and then be stored in a desk drawer when not in use. (Note: the P50 is just a punch. You have to bind your booklet yourself.) There s also the ProClick P200, a larger tabletop device that can both punch and bind, allowing you to create documents with as many as 100 pages. It even has a storage compartment for your spines.

Wire and coil. GBC also makes wire and coil binders, although they don t tend to make as many of these devices. Most of what the company makes in this category are separate punches and wire closers/coil inserters. For example, a good wire closer is the MC12 manual twin loop wire closer, while the CC2700 electric coil inserter is simply one of the best devices of its kind currently available. And if your office needs a high quality, heavy duty punch, the Magnapunch 660ID is just what you need. This product can punch up to 45 sheets at once and it can produce just about any kind of hole pattern you need, from the 19 holes needed for comb binding to 3:1 and 2:1 pitch patterns for wire bound documents. Just install the appropriate die set and you re on your way.

VeloBind. Finally, GBC manufactures several VeloBinding machines. VeloBinding is great for creating both hardcover and paperback books. The V800Pro can both punch and bind your books, and it will create a bind that is very secure and long lasting. Also, the VeloBind System Two and Three models can help you out when you have a large number of documents to bind.

As you can see, GBC makes a great number of machines that also happen to be top quality products. So whether you re interested in the simplicity of plastic comb binding or the permanence of VeloBind appeals to you, this company definitely makes a device that will allow you to produce great looking books right in your office.
