The Importance of Choosing the Correct AdSense Ad Type

How do the best AdSense publishers decide on the best type of AdSense ads to use on their sites? How do they plan and execute their ideas so that they are maximising the AdSense earning potential of their sites?

With so many different, colors, formats and sizes to choose from, how can you possibly know which AdSense ad type to use for your website?

For many the fact that Google AdSense gives you so many options is a blessing, however, it leaves a few AdSense publishers in a quandary. Which AdSense ad type is the best? What color should they use? What format? These are some of the questions that go through the mind of many publishers new to the staggering range of choices available from AdSense.

When it comes down to deciding which AdSense ad type is the best for your site, no article, website or book can give you a definitive answer. This is because websites comes in so many different colors, fonts and styles. The only true way to decide which AdSense ad type is best for your site is to actually experiment and discover it yourself.

This answer may seem to be the most frustratingly difficult solution but it is the best one. Fortunately, it isn’t as difficult as it may appear, as long as you apply some basic rules.

Firstly and very importantly always try and find an AdSense ad type that blends into your website. Visitors dislike glaring, old fashioned banner type ads, that stand out shockingly from the rest of the site. From a design perspective it often looks terrible and from the perspective of a visitor it’s too obvious. Visitors don’t like ads that look too much like ads. Try, if possible to choose, colors, fonts and formats that blend seamlessly into your site.

If you decide to choose text based ads, try and use blue for the text color. It has proved, in many online surveys to be the most ‘clicked’ text color. This probably related to the fact that blue has been the default color of links on the web for decades and if nothing else, web surfers are creatures of habit.

Secondly, make sure the ads are placed in areas of the site where they can be seen. If possible they should be placed above the fold, the area first in view before scrolling down the page. There is often a temptation to place AdSense ads in areas of a page web page that doesn’t interfere much with the overall design of a site, for instance areas far removed from the content. But after they’ve viewed your content what incentive is there for them to look at your ads? Why should they scroll to the bottom of the page or look at the content at the lower end of your sidebar? Web surfers are an impatient bunch, once they’ve got what they want, they’re off.

You need to choose an AdSense ad type that blends in with the design of your website, an ad type that enables it to be placed in prominent positions of your web page. Thirdly, don’t overdo it. There is a limit on how many ads you can place on a single page. But this still leaves room for some publishers to over clutter their web pages with AdSense ads. Two large rectangles (336x280) on a small web page can be overwhelming and nothing puts off a visitor than an over eager AdSense publisher.

Remember, the key to finding the best AdSense ad type is to find the ideal balance between blending the ads into your website and making them prominent enough to be noticed.

When you choose the right AdSense ad type what you will find is that your Click Through Rates (CTRs) will increase dramatically. Basically, what you will have achieved is the perfect balance between blending and prominence. Your visitors will read the ads as though they are parts of the content and if they see what they like they will click on them. And when they click you earn, simple.

Be aware of the types of AdSense ad formats that are available to you. Not all of them can be delivered to your site (this depends on the content of your website and depends on the quantity of available ads) but be sure you know the types of ads that will work for your site. Text ads works for a majority of sites, but image and video ads only work for a selected variety of sites, depending on their theme and look.

Experiment to find out which ads works for your site and experiment to find out where best they should be placed. Through tweaking you can find the ultimate position that can boost your AdSense earnings phenomenally.
