Up to this point we have looked at the methods to make money online, researching a product, finding keywords and making landing pages. Now we will look at how important it is to track your results.
It doesn t matter if you are running a ppc campaign, article writing, video marketing or just working on search engine rankings, it is vital that you track which areas are performing, and which ones are not.
If you have a ppc campaign running, you must keep a very close eye on how much each ad is costing you, and then whether or not that ad is converting into sales. If an ad gets heaps of clicks, you will get a lot of traffic, but it will cost you a lot of money. High volume keywords often cost quite a lot more per click because lots of other people are also bidding on these keywords. The chances are that these keywords are too general, so while lots of people are clicking through, they are not interested in buying anything.
What we want to do is to refine the keywords until we find ones which don t have as much traffic, but convert a lot better into sales. This is good business sense, because the ads will cost less, and the sales will be higher, so your profit will be much greater.
The same principle applies to free traffic methods like video and article marketing. The better you target your audience, fewer people will click through, but they will be more likely to buy the product.
The only really successful way to refine your keywords to the most effective ones is to monitor your results.
This may seem fairly basic, but it is very powerful when put into practice properly.
There are a few ways to monitor your results. If you are using clickbank they will give you statistics on visitors and how many ended up buying etc. Some individual products will allow you to apply Google tracking code, which will show you which individual keyword generated the most sales, and which ad format worked best.
I have been using a product which integrates the whole process, from keyword research, ad placement, landing page creation and data tracking. The great thing about this system, is that every keyword for every product can be tracked, letting you know exactly which area to focus on. Knowing exactly which ad and keyword combination brings in the most interested people makes everything simple, because you can then stop the ads and keywords which aren’t working, and save yourself a lot of money.
If you are technically minded, you can setup your landing pages with Google analytics or something similar, and you can get a lot of useful data about your traffic, like which sites they came from, which keywords sent them there, if they searched in Google and what they searched to come to your site. You can even see exactly which country and city they came from, which is great for getting a feel for the type of people you are attracting.
All this data helps to refine your efforts to get traffic to your website or product. Good Luck.
