When it comes to office machines comb binders, paper shredders, laminators there s really no one better than Fellowes. The company recently released a brand new laminator called the Voyager VY 125. It is an extremely advanced device with a lot of special features. But how does it truly stack up? If it were given a grade, what would it get? Read on to find out.
All about the VY 125:
* This machine has a 12.5 inch feed opening so you can use it for those larger documents.
* The VY 125 will warm up in 4 minutes so you can begin using it almost immediately. It is capable of laminating up to 35 of material in a single minute, so this is a very fast device.
* The speed and temperature settings are totally adjustable. You can use pouches that are 10 mil in thickness or less. Unfortunately, this device isn t compatible with mounting boards and it s not capable of doing cold lamination.
* The VY 125 has four rollers. The more rollers a laminator has, the better the end result will be, so you can be confident your documents will look great when you use this machine.
* This laminator has an incredibly interesting feature that s known as AutoLam technology. What this does is it causes the machine to adjust to the proper settings for the particular item you re laminating. This makes this device very easy to use, even for beginners. There s a control panel on the front of the machine so you can keep track of what s going on.
* Fellowes has equipped the VY 125 with its popular HeatGuard feature. This function causes the heat to stay trapped inside the machine so you won t get burned when using it. (However, it won t cause the motor to overheat either.) The machine will automatically turn off when not in use to prevent it from becoming damaged.
* If one of your documents gets jammed, there s an auto reverse mode that will automatically kick in and force the item out of the machine.
* The VY 125 has a unique clamshell design that allows you to open it up and see inside. This makes cleaning and maintaining it easy. There s also a set of sensors that will let you know when the machine needs cleaning.
* Finally, this product comes with a package of laminating pouches.
The Final Grade: B+
Overall, the Fellowes Voyager VY 125 is a very impressive laminator. It has so many great features, including the unusual clamshell design and the AutoLam detection system. This machine is more than capable of producing flawless lamination and it s well constructed so it will stand up to frequent use. However, it only gets a B+ grade for the simple fact that it can t do cold lamination. It seems unusual that such a high quality device would lack this feature and if you want to work with thermally sensitive items (i.e. photographs), you ll need to have an additional laminator at hand. Nonetheless, if you don t need this feature, then you re bound to be very happy with this product. If so, get it today so you can begin taking advantage of its many great features.
