  • Home-style Deep Fried Okra Appetizer By:-Kathy Smith
Deep Fried Okra - can't eat just one! The fried okra is light, crunchy and a little bit salty. In other words a perfect snack food. The following fried okra recipe fries up enough for one side dish for six to eight people. Materials to Make Fried Okra: 4 cups unflavored oil 2 whole eggs, beaten 3/4 cup lowfat milk 2 cups yellow cornmeal 3 tbsps . all-purpose flour 1 tsp . salt 1 tsp of freshly ground black pepper 2 lbs fresh, tender okra close to 3 inches in size Preheat the your oven to 225 degrees and have out an oven safe lasagna dish or a cookie sheet. Afterward, batches of this fried okra are going to be put in the dish and stored in your oven to be kept toasty warm as your rest of okra gets fried. Take a large bowl, stir together the eggs and milk until all of them are thoroughly combined. Inside an In a medium bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, salt, and fresh ground black pepper together. Rinse the okra and snap off the stems. Carefully dry the okra in a paper towel or allow it to drain in a colander. Slice the okra into1/2 inch thick portions and add to the milk and eggs batter. Gently toss the okra in the bowl until it is uniformly coated in the eggs and milk. Dust just about half of the cornmeal and flour bowl onto the okra and then turn over the okra in the bowl. Sift the the other amount of the cornmeal and flour onto the okra and lightly toss until all of the okra is thoroughly coated. In a large fry pan, heat the oil until a drop of water forms a soft ball. Ensure that the oil will not get too hot and suddenly start to smoke. If it does, the coated fried okra are going to have a burnt taste. Put about ? to 1/3 of the okra into the fry pan and evenly distribute it in the oil. Fry each side of the okra for around 1 minute per side or until it is golden brown on both sides. Move the fried okra to a lot of paper towels to drain. Once drained (almost 3 minutes) place the okra in the oven safe dish or on the cookie sheet and keep it hot in the oven while frying up the remaining batch of okra. Carry on with the process of frying, draining, and keeping the okra in the oven until such time as all of the okra is fried and ready to be enjoyed. Sprinkle with salt if desired and enjoy this fried okra recipe!
